Dr. Robin Bohaty

Brief summary about yourself?
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs with pets including cats, fish, mice, a guinea pig, a hamster and a ferret. After finishing school I moved back to Chicago proper where I live with my husband and Boston Terrier, Lucille.

I earned by B.S. in animal sciences at the University of Illinois followed by an M.S. in animal sciences with an emphasis on nutritional physiology at the University of Kentucky. I returned to the University of Illinois for veterinary school where I graduated with a DVM with honors.

Why did you decide to be a vet?
I always loved animals as a child and enjoyed biology/sciences in school. As I grew older and spent time volunteering at animal shelters and working in vet clinics my decision was solidified.

Any special interests?
My special interests in terms of veterinary medicine are internal medicine, dermatology and dentistry.My special interests outside of veterinary medicine are travelling, cooking and baking, and music/concerts.

Any unusual pets you’ve seen?
The most unusual animal I have been involved with treating was probably a lion who came in for dental work when I was in veterinary school.

Pet peeves?
I generally like to walk quickly so people walking slow on busy sidewalks.

Favorite place to eat?
Any Rick Bayless restaurant especially Lena Brava.

Favorite place to visit?
I love travelling and visiting new places. A couple of my favorites so far have been Kauai, Hawaii and Cinque Terre in Italy because of the beautiful scenery and great hiking.

Favorite food?
Pretty much any type of cheese, also strawberry shortcake.

Favorite movie?
The Princess Bride

Favorite sports team?
I’m not much of a sports fan but a supporter of all Illini and Chicago teams.
