Dr. Amanda Schnitker

What is your educational and veterinary medicine background?
I graduated from Iowa State University with Honors, and continued my education with two internships after receiving my degree. I completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and a Surgical Internship at Veterinary Surgical Associates (now Sage Centers) in San Francisco, California.

What made you decide to become a vet?
I decided to become a veterinarian at the age of 9. I felt a calling to help animals, and started by bringing home injured wildlife, which my parents tolerated and supported.

What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?
Gardening, traveling, running and reading.

What is the most unusual pet you have helped treat?
A chameleon with an eye infection.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
When my dog poops in the house (yes, this happens to vets, too) and I step in it.

Favorite place to eat?
My husband and I love to try new foods and restaurants! My favorite place to explore and try new foods is Istanbul, Turkey.

Favorite place to visit?
Our family loves to travel to new places and have adventures. Spending time in foreign countries is our favorite because we learn so much when we get to experience other cultures.

Do I have to choose just one?!
