Annual Pet Exams and Wellness Care = Healthier Companions
Every moment you spend with your pet is special, and we want you to have as many moments together as possible. Pets are companions and family members, and they look to us to make sure their needs are being met. At Companion Animal Hospital, it has always been our goal to give pets in River North and surrounding neighborhoods a healthy start in life, and to be there for them year after year providing timely, quality care.
Therefore, our team places a strong emphasis on pet wellness care. This involves lifelong disease prevention and routine exams to make sure your four-legged friend enjoys a healthy and happy life.
Pet Exams 101
Wellness exams are an essential part of every veterinary appointment. They give us insight into your pet’s current health and help to reveal issues that may need immediate treatment.
A basic wellness exam includes, but is not limited to:
- A complete nose-to-tail physical
- Checking heart rate, temperature and weight
- Giving core and/or lifestyle vaccines as needed
- Blood and fecal testing to check for parasites and diseases
- Counseling on proper nutrition, behavior, parasite prevention and more
- Discussing our findings after your pet’s exam and any additional treatments
Puppies and Kittens
Puppy and kitten exams often take longer because there is more information to discuss. Furthermore, starting your pet off right is crucial. To help you lay the groundwork for a lifetime of good health for your pet, we will answer any questions you have and provide other resources to guide you along the way.
Senior Dogs and Cats
Elderly pets need special attention from their veterinarian to remain healthy and comfortable in their later years. Osteoarthritis, urinary incontinence and other issues may develop around this time. Seeing your senior pet at least once a year for their checkup and any recommended diagnostics is paramount to their well-being.
Protecting Your Pet from Parasites
Regardless of species, breed, size and lifestyle, your pet will be vulnerable to various external and internal parasites if they’re not taking a preventive. During their wellness visit, we’ll recommend the best flea, tick, heartworm and intestinal parasite control to keep your pet safe and healthy throughout the year. Infestations are not the only threat; parasites can also spread disease and trigger allergic reactions. Give us a call today at (312) 643-2901 to learn more about protecting your pet!
