Dr. Amanda Schnitker
I graduated from Iowa State University with Honors, and continued my education with two internships after receiving my degree. I completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and a Small Animal Rotating Internship at Veterinary Surgical Associates (now Sage Centers) in San Francisco, California.
I decided to become a veterinarian at the age of 9. I felt a calling to help animals, and started by bringing home injured wildlife, which my parents tolerated and supported.
Gardening, traveling, running and reading.
A chameleon with an eye infection.
When my dog poops in the house (yes, this happens to vets, too) and I step in it.
My husband and I love to try new foods and restaurants! My favorite place to explore and try new foods is Istanbul, Turkey.
Our family loves to travel to new places and have adventures. Spending time in foreign countries is our favorite because we learn so much when we get to experience other cultures.
Do I have to choose just one?!

Dr. Robin Bohaty
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs with pets including cats, fish, mice, a guinea pig, a hamster and a ferret. After finishing school I moved back to Chicago proper where I live with my husband and Boston Terrier, Lucille.
I earned by B.S. in animal sciences at the University of Illinois followed by an M.S. in animal sciences with an emphasis on nutritional physiology at the University of Kentucky. I returned to the University of Illinois for veterinary school where I graduated with a DVM with honors.
I always loved animals as a child and enjoyed biology/sciences in school. As I grew older and spent time volunteering at animal shelters and working in vet clinics my decision was solidified.
My special interests in terms of veterinary medicine are internal medicine, dermatology and dentistry.
My special interests outside of veterinary medicine are travelling, cooking and baking, and music/concerts.
The most unusual animal I have been involved with treating was probably a lion who came in for dental work when I was in veterinary school.
I generally like to walk quickly so people walking slow on busy sidewalks.
Any Rick Bayless restaurant especially Lena Brava.
I love travelling and visiting new places. A couple of my favorites so far have been Kauai, Hawaii and Cinque Terre in Italy because of the beautiful scenery and great hiking.
Pretty much any type of cheese, also strawberry shortcake.

I’m not much of a sports fan but a supporter of all Illini and Chicago teams.
Joe, Hospital manager
I have had the opportunity to work with animals since high school in various positions. In those years, I have worked as a kennel assistant, receptionist, technician and even got into grooming. As a Hospital Manager, I can utilize my 20+ years of experience in the veterinary field to help create and implement protocols which help to create a safe, fun and caring environment, ensuring your pet receives an excellent quality of medicine here at Companion Animal Hospital River North.
My pets have brought me joy and helped me through some very difficult times, and it is my goal to help others be able to have that same gift. By being part of a team the genuinely cares for your pet as if it was our own, I now have that opportunity.
Greetings to all! My name is Logan and I’ve been working in the pet industry for 5 years. Growing up with dogs and cats I learned early my love and admiration for animals. I received my grooming certification from Petco Groom School in 2013 and I’ve had a passion for grooming since then. I love my craft and I’m devoted to creating great grooms for both the pet and pet parent. I own two dogs, a ten year old American Eskimo Mix & twelve year old toy poodle both rescues. I’m fond of grooming all breeds but big dogs such as Standard Poodles & Golden Doodles are my favorite.
I have always had a passion for animals and when I moved to Chicago in 2013, I had the opporunity to pursue that passion. I joined Companion Animal Hospital in 2015, and when I learned they we're opening a new location in River North, I knew I had to be a part of it. I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and had a variety of pets growing up, including English Bulldogs, Labrador Retrievers, Scottish Terriers, cats and birds. I now have my own small Puggle, Carl. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, camping, and taking city walks with my dog.
I have always had a passion for animals for as long as I can remember. Ever since i was a child, to work with animals of all ranges was a dream come true. To help save them from harm, to heal them from illness, but most of all to be their voice - this is something I truly take pride in. Companion River North is a hospital that really takes the pets wellness serious and with lots of patience and care. We always go above and beyong when it comes to a pets health, which is an important factor in this field. The most rewarding aspects of this job is saving a life and sending home healthy pets to happy families. Oh, and you can’t leave out the furry KISSES! Seeing a pet's eyes look at you with love and the kisses of “ thank you for helping me” is why I do what I do. Those moments and those memories is what makes coming to work worth it.
I am the proud pet parent to a 9 yr old German shepherd/boxer mix, Tinsel & a Sun Conure named LD. Due to my brother & mother’s allergies growing up, I wasn't able to have pets most of my childhood…I was always the kid begging for a dog on Christmas morning. Flash forward 10/15 years and I now had my own dog which I knew very little about. After completing my Associates degree in Applied Science, I was having a hard time finding work that fit my personality and needs. I spotted an ad for a receptionist at an animal hospital & I realized what great opportunity to learn more about pet health, and try a role I had never been in. While working at my first animal hospital I met Dr. Schnitker and admired her natural poise with animals and work ethic - this left a lasting impression. When I heard she was in the process of opening a new location with Companion, I knew I had to apply. Working for Companion has introduced me to a whole new side of veterinary practice. Being part of a team opening a new location has been really exciting and challenging for my role as a CSR. I love getting to meet new clients and their beloved companions.
I grew up with family in the veterinary field, so for as long as I can remember I have always wanted to work with animals as well. My passion for them always brought me back to the field. For the past few years, I worked in the suburbs at a clinic that specialized in exotics. I saw my fair share of cats and dogs, but half the practice was birds of all sizes. They worked closely with a zoo nearby that gave me the opportunity to work with many different animals, including an alligator, bald eagles, foxes, raccoons, skunks, porcupines, 7-foot monitor, bobcat, woodchucks, snakes of all sizes, lizards, chinchillas and a vast array of owls. When I moved out to the city, it was right by Companion Animal Hospital River North. The passion the doctors held here for the dogs and cats, as well as their employees, convinced me that I found my new home.
When I'm not working, you can find me at Wrigley, being the huge Cubs fan that I am. I also love to cook, bake, see live music, boat and spend time with my family.
I knew from a young age I wanted to work with animals. I have grown up with dogs and various other animals (hamster, frogs, fish) my whole life, so love for animals was instilled at a young age. My dad is the person who got me thinking about becoming a vet tech - he was a Chicago policeman in the K-9 unit and told me all about what vet techs got to do and how hands-on they were when he would take his dog in. Being hands on, while talking and relating with clients are some of my favorite things about my job - teaching owners new things that help their pets is always so rewarding! I love hearing how much something I told them about has helped. Working at Companion Animal Hospital River North is such a great experience because I got to be here from the very start and watch the hospital grow and flourish. Working with great doctors, an awesome staff, and such caring clients makes coming to work everyday so enjoyable.
I have always enjoyed the company of animals starting with the cats and dogs I had growing up. From working with cows as a ranch hand in Texas to cats and dogs in the middle of Chicago, it has been such a pleasure and privilege to be able to work with animals and help them stay healthy. The commitment to each animal that comes through Companion River North is why I enjoy working here so much. I knew right after my first interview with Dr. Schnitker that this was going to be a place I would be proud to work at. To see an animal that comes in fearful of the hospital and then leave loving us takes an extra level of care, patience, and individualized attention that all of us here at Companion River North truly strive for.
When I am not at work, I love giving snuggles to my two cats Zuko and Pippa while binge watching shows or practicing my piano while Zuko comes over and sits next to me. If I ever get out of my house, I enjoy exploring the city appreciating the amazing architecture or getting out to any of the nature preserves.
Hi! My name is Sarah. I have worked in the pet care industry for four years. Working with animals has always been a dream of mine. I am so glad I can make a difference in an animals life- even if just a little- as they have always made a great difference in mine. Their unconditional love and happiness inspire me to be a better person! I hope to work with animals for many years to come, and give as much love as I can back.
In my spare time, I love to read, write, listen to podcasts, watch scary movies, and play video and board games. My all-time favorite past time is lazing around at home with my 13 year old English Bulldog, Charlie!
Hey y’all! my name is Mary McKellick, I am currently an undergraduate at Moody Bible Institute. When I’m not attending classes or doing homework, I’m playing and loving the dogs at Companion River North! I grew up with dogs and have always shared a connection with them. I volunteered at an Animal Sanctuary a couple years ago and since then my love for all animals has grown. Since I can’t have a dog in the dorm, working at the daycare has been such a blessing. I’m hoping once I graduate that I’ll be able to have my own dog, or maybe even a pygmy pig!
